Chrism Mass - April 15 | 10:30 a.m. | Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral
The Chrism Mass is a liturgical celebration where the Bishop consecrates the sacred chrism and blesses other oils used in sacraments like Baptism, Confirmation, and Anointing of the Sick. Priests and parishioners from throughout the diocese are invited to attend.

The DCC community will be attending this diocesan Mass, all students are welcome to join! Email Monica Cronin if you want to carpool to Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral.

Mass of the Last Supper - April 16 | 9:00 p.m. | Duke Chapel
"With this Mass, celebrated in the evening of the Thursday in Holy Week, the Church begins the sacred Easter Triduum and devotes herself to the remembrance of the Last Supper. At the supper on the night he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus, loving those who were his own in the world even to the end, offered his Body and Blood to the Father under the appearance of bread and wine, gave them to the apostles to eat and drink, then enjoined the apostles and their successors in the priesthood to offer them in turn."
Ceremonial of Bishops sets the context in no. 297

Good Friday of the Lord's Passion - April 18 | 5:00 p.m. | Duke Chapel
On Good Friday, we commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. The Veneration of the Cross tradition on Good Friday dates back to the fourth century. The priest accepts a veiled cross and then, standing before the altar and facing the people, uncovers the cross for adoration. Good Friday is an obligatory day of fasting and abstinence.

April 14 | 6:00pm | Rubenstein Library 153 | Lecture: “The Ethics of Abortion: Women’s Rights, Human Life, and the Question of Justice”

Dr. Christopher Kaczor, a philosopher at Loyola Marymount University, will argue for a pro-life position on the issue of abortion. Dr. Kaczor will approach the issue from the standpoint of ethics and philosophy, and will address the strongest arguments on both sides. Q&A will follow. Join for us to learn more about how the pro-life stance is backed by reason!

The next day, Dr. Kaczor will lead a seminar discussion of Genesis 1–3 at noon in Gray 228, following the 11:15am Mass. Food will be provided, please RSVP here.

Are you studying abroad next semester? Interested in visiting the Eternal City during the Jubilee Year? Fr. Juan José will be in Rome the weekend of October 4-5 and would love to be your guide! After living in Rome for four years, Father knows the city well and will be sure you check out the best gelato and restaurants in the city -- along with visiting St. Peter's Basilica, the other three Major Basilicas, the Vatican Museums, and of course, walking around Rome. No RSVP is needed at this time; just collecting interested students! If this sounds like something you'd be interested in attending, let us know!

"May we find the grace to accept the crosses we cannot change, trusting that God is always at work."

This Palm Sunday, Fr. Juan José invites us to reflect on how we respond to suffering—both in our own lives and in the lives of others. Do we resist, despair, or trust?

The Prophet Isaiah reminds us: “Morning after morning, He opens my ear.” In moments of hardship, God calls us to listen to His Word and trust in His presence. Christ’s suffering does not have the last word—we know how the story ends.

As we walk with Him step by step this week, may we find the grace to accept the crosses we cannot change, trusting that God is always at work, bringing new life from suffering.

Watch Fr. Juan José's reflection on our YouTube channel and within the DCC App.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap, for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”

Luke 6:38

Consider adding the DCC to your
Lenten almsgiving offerings

Lent allows us to cultivate a sacrificial spirit of generosity and charity. It allows us to share what we have and who we are with other people. It puts us in communion with others and helps us understand that we are all members of the Body of Christ.

If you have experienced the love of Christ through the Duke Catholic Center, we invite you to help make that same experience possible for others. By giving monthly, you become a partner in sharing Christ’s love on campus.

Whether it’s $5, $10, or the price of your weekly coffee, your monthly sacrifice supports Mass, small groups, music, retreats, and more for current and incoming Catholic students.

One of the greatest acts of charity and important ministries of all the baptized is to pray for the living and the dead. The greatest and most powerful prayer we have is the Mass, since the fruits of the Mass are the very fruits of Jesus' redemption. For that reason, anyone may have a Mass celebrated for loved ones who have died, or for the living who have some need or are celebrating some special occasion. This is an ancient Catholic practice, and all are invited to exercise it when it seems appropriate.

The DCC is now accepting Mass Intentions for our Daily Masses. Please note the following when making your Mass Intention:

  • Mass intention requests are only accepted through the online Mass Intention form (also available in the DCC App).
  • Mass intention requests are available for Daily Masses only and will be granted as close to the requested day as possible.  If it is not possible to comply with the primary request, the next closest date will be scheduled.
  • Mass Intentions are accepted up to 5:00 pm on Wednesdays for the upcoming week based on availability.
  • For each Mass request, there is a $10 suggested stipend, as determined by diocesan policy.

Please indicate your desired date and for whom the Mass intention is for in the 'Add a Note' box when completing your payment.
