As the semester gets harder, is your faith getting lost in the shuffle of classes, clubs, and the general anxiety of life?

Join the DCC from November 2-3 for Duc in Altum, our annual Fall Retreat. This overnight retreat is the perfect opportunity to take a short pause, be refreshed in prayer and community, and be strengthened in Christ to take on the rest of the semester. Find all the information & how to register in the DCC App or click here.

The cost is $25 per person, which covers all transportation, meals, and supplies, and financial aid is available to those who need it - just reach out to our campus minister, Monica Cronin.

Have you been thinking about becoming a Catholic? Or perhaps you grew up Catholic but never received the sacrament of Confirmation. We encourage you to check out our OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) program. We will pair you with one of our catechists for a time of inquiry and spiritual growth. Signing up does not mean that you have to be baptized or confirmed. Please contact Fr. Nicholas to get started!

Formation Brunches are starting this coming Saturday! Join us at 9:00 a.m. for Mass on Saturday, October 5 and stay for brunch and formation of the faith. October's theme will be on the Galeleo Controversy and what he can teach us about the Bible. You don't want to miss brunch - Father Juan José is cooking! Email Fr. Nicholas with any questions or for more information.

Looking for a way to connect with other Catholic Latinos? Well, we have a great opportunity for you! The DCC will be starting up our Latinx Small Group for this semester. Feel free to join us if you're navigating faith, adjusting to Mass in English, want to connect your culture to your faith, or just want to connect with others at the DCC from a student’s perspective. If you're interested or want more information, please complete this Google form.

SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDY: Our FOCUS Missionaries have started meeting with small groups, but it is never too late to join a group (or start a new one!). Complete the Interest Questionnaire to get connected!

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!  Did you know that out of the approximately 63.7 million Hispanic people living in this country, about 31 million self-identify as Catholic? We are all invited to honor and highlight the many stories, experiences, and contributions of Hispanics living in the U.S during this month-long celebration. It's a beautiful time to recognize the rich diversity of the Hispanic community and our Church!

Here are a few ways you can celebrate this month:

  • Join the DCC community at the FAH for Spanish Mass next Sunday, October 6, at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
  • Reflect on the lives of five lesser-known saints who have deeply impacted different Latin American countries through their Catholic faith.
  • Listen to Spanish canciones de adoración
  • Attend the Diocese of Raleigh's Hispanic Heritage Mass held on Saturday, October 12, at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral presided by Bishop Luis Zarama. Food and cultural dances will follow Mass.
  • Follow Duke Mi Gente, Duke University's Latinx Student Association, on Instagram to discover campus events you can attend this month.

We are one month into the 2024-2025 academic school year, and through the busyness of midterms and campus life, you might be finding it hard to prioritize your faith life. You're not alone! When life gets busy, it can feel like you don't have time to pray. Ironically, those are also the times when you need prayer the most! Here are some tips for keeping your faith strong during the school year:
  1. Find a Good Community that calls you to holiness. Stick around after Mass and challenge yourself to meet new friends! Branch out and join a small group, attend a social, or join us for a service project.
  2. Pray when you can. Prayer is essential to grow and maintain your relationship with the Lord. Spend time with Jesus in Adoration at Goodson Chapel each Wednesday at 8:00pm. Read the daily Scripture readings. Say a quick prayer as you walk between clasess.
  3. Go to Mass as often as you can. This is the perfect prayer that will bring you the most peace and joy.
  4. Attend Confession often. You have enough baggage as it is; lighten your load by going to Confession. Because mistakes happen and the Lord still desires you.
  5. Give yourself Grace. Sometimes, prayer can seem daunting. We might feel like we don't have the right words to say. But God doesn't care if you pray eloquently. God delights in having a relationship with you. God listens no matter how all over the place your prayer is. Even brief words like "Thank you, God," or "Help me, Lord," are important to God.
And always keep in mind the big picture. No matter how far into the semester, we at the DCC always have a place for you.
