Looking to serve families in the Durham community? The DCC will be cooking and serving dinner to families transitioning out of homelessness through Families Moving Forward (FMF). FMF is a local non-profit that provides safe housing as well as enrichment programs to help families break the cycle of poverty. We will be praying for these families and cooking dinner on Tuesday, January 21st at 5:00 PM at the FAH. We will then serve the food on Wednesday, January 22nd from 4:30-6:30 PM. If you are interested in cooking or serving the meal, sign up here!

January is Poverty Awareness Month
More than 37 million Americans live in poverty
The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. The Church's social teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. Whether on a global or local scale, poverty impacts us all. Our awareness of social issues contributes to our ability to advocate for policies, practices, and political decisions that advance poverty eradication.
"...to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God." -Micah 6:8
Especially during this month, we are invited to join the Catholic community in the United States in taking up Pope Francis' challenge to live in solidarity with the poor. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development's Poverty USA initiative gives us three ways we can join in the challenge:
- Encounter: Listen to real stories about people living in poverty and help share their stories.
- Learn: The key to solving any problem is understanding it - learn the facts about poverty in the U.S. and begin to understand the root causes.
- Act: Take action in your community, pray for change, and work to help others understand the issues. Join the DCC cohort that volunteers at the St. Joseph Community Breakfast every Monday and Wednesday morning, the Durham Food Bank every Wednesday evening, and/or Families Moving Forward. You can find dates and times for the opportunities on the DCC Calendar.
It takes all of us together to make a difference - the road starts here!

Together We Thrive:
Help Sustain Our Faith Community
You might think, "I don't have enough to give."But giving isn't just for those with steady incomes—it's an opportunity to grow in trust and commitment to God and our faith in Him, even as students.
The Duke Catholic Center isn't like a typical parish with families supporting it every week, and the DCC is not funded by the university or the diocese. In fact, over 85% of our funding comes directly from individual contributions made by students, parents, and alumni.
Whether it's $5, $10, or the price of your weekly coffee, a regular weekly or monthly financial commitment shows your love for this community and keeps it thriving for all of us! Let's join together in intentional giving and make an impact today.
