The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Feast Day: November 21
Although this event cannot be proven historically, apocryphal literature (or biblical writings not part of the canon of scripture) recorded Anne and Joachim presenting Mary, at age three, to the Temple in Jerusalem. It's important to note that the Church does not emphasize the historical event itself, but rather the significance of the story - Mary made a total gift of herself. This is echoed throughout Scripture, from the visitation of the Angel Gabriel to Mary's dedication as the first disciple.
May this feast day help us in our call to imitate and learn from Mary - entrusting ourselves to say "yes" and do "the will of my Father" (Mt. 12:50).
