Welcome!
Greetings from the Duke Catholic Center
Being Catholic is a way of life. The Duke Catholic community offers students a way of being Catholic on a secular campus and in a secular world.
One of the strengths of Duke is diversity. We are blessed to have people here from all over the world, people who come from different cultures, with different value systems and worldviews. Living with such diversity demands that a person have a strong sense of his or her own identity. Otherwise, one can feel isolated or threatened by these differences.
Being Catholic is not something one does alone. An essential part of being Catholic is that one feels connected to the Church--to a community of believers across the world and across time. We are rooted in a wisdom tradition that helps us to understand life and how we can live it to the full.
Our community gathers on Sundays for Mass at 11am and 9pm. We sponsor retreats, Bible study groups, and diverse other opportunities for prayer and to explore Catholic beliefs and practices. Our community gathers regularly for Tuesday Night Dinners and other social occasions that promote intimate friendships. We sponsor service projects and mission trips.
A Catholic student has the option of coming to Duke and totally disconnecting from their faith tradition. Or, they can choose to be part of a vibrant community of Catholic young people who support and encourage one another. Some opportunities for connecting with our community are found on this website. If you would like to learn more about us, we invite you to contact us by phone or email. Or, better yet, visit us when you are on campus. We are always happy to meet prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, or anyone interested in the Catholic community at Duke.
For a more philosophical understanding of who we are and what we are about, we invite you to read this reflection on our ministry at Duke.
Being Catholic is not about something we do. It's about who we are.
